In Memory of Joanne Heilinger

The scheduled Salem Bicycle Club ride on Wednesday, June 9, is dedicated to the memory of Joanne Heilinger. Joanne, a longtime Salem Bicycle Club member and volunteer, passed away on April 20 after a long, courageous battle with cancer during which she continued to ride and volunteer with the club. Joanne’s Memorial Ride will start at 10 a.m. from McKay Park. Participants will ride together to Torvend Road where they will pause at one of Joanne’s favorite spots to commemorate her life and her contributions to the Salem Bicycle Club. The return route to McKay Park will take participants past EZ Orchards Farm Store where they can stop and reminisce about their many rides with Joanne. See additional rides details on Page 6. Joanne won the club's Battered Saddle for most club miles in a calendar year 13 times, including 10 straight. She also earned the P.E.D.A.L award five times for participation in the most club rides. Beyond her cycling miles, Joanne also was a key club volunteer having regularly coordinated rides and served multiple times as an event ride coordinator, a member of the board of directors, and Rides Committee chair.
